Our Vision of the Youth of Durban YMCA

Our vision is to be a strong presence for good in the Albert Park community. In order to achieve this, we seek to expand our programmes in the following ways.

Through our work at Addington School, we have learned of three other areas in which the Park Watch programme can be replicated: South Beach, North Beach, and the Alice Street area. Richard Dobson of iTrump is working with us to identify suitable locations for this programme.

Our existing childrens and youth programmes are crowded into Anchor House. We are currently in negotiation with the City to secure a lease to operate a Childrens and Youth Recreational Centere in the premises of the former Albert Park Bowling Club.

We plan to operate a Computer Centre in Anchor House which will provide adults with employable computer skills; children and young people with basic computer skills, and a safe enviroment in which to conduct internet research for homework purposes; and our residents with a safe accessible Internet Caf facility in the evenings. Dell Computers have generously donated ten computers for this purpose, and we have applied to the Victor Daitz Foundation for the set-up costs.

Our children and teen groups are embarking on an enviromental programme, establishing a market garden in the grounds of Anchor House, later expanding to include a nursery for the sale of indigenous trees.

The possibilities are endless. The resources are not.
